Halong Boutique Hotel sits on Nguyen Du Street in Hong Gai, the historic port and administrative heart of Ha Long City. Ha Long grew from the 2003 merger of the old French-colonial coal town of Hong Gai with the resort district of Bai Chay, the two sides linked by the 903-metre Bai Chay Bridge — Vietnam's first cable-stayed bridge, which lights up in changing colours after dark. From the hotel, the everyday buzz of Ha Long Market, riverside cafes and the Vincom Plaza mall are all close at hand.
Within walking distance you'll find Long Tien Pagoda, the largest temple in central Ha Long, tucked at the foot of Bai Tho (Poem) Mountain, and the leafy Ha Long Flower Park a few minutes away. The Quang Ninh Museum, with its striking black-glass "coal" facade, is about 2.7 km along the waterfront. Across the bridge in Bai Chay lie the beach and the Sun World complex, home to the Queen Cable Car and the Sun Wheel Ferris wheel, which crosses Cua Luc Bay in around seven minutes for sweeping views over the water.
For the bay itself, tour boats and cruises depart from the harbours a short ride away, and the Ha Long Queen Cable Car terminal is about 8 km from the hotel. Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong is around 77 km away, roughly a 40-minute drive to the nearer edge of the region, while Van Don International Airport lies to the east. Autumn and spring bring the most comfortable weather for exploring Ha Long on foot.
